Sels Nadia

Nadia Sels explores the common denominator between art and mythology. She does not draw a line between the two fields, but sees them as a continuum: both are part of the endless historical process in which humanity tries to find meaning and orientation in an inherently meaningless reality. This constant construction of meaning does not only run through concepts, but starts out from a bodily, sensory involvement with the world.

Her main research interest is the way in which our cultural creations, through analogous thinking and feeling, serve as "scale models" to order and intensify our experience of the world. From her perspective, this kind of artistic research can never be done from a purely detached position: as a thinking and feeling being, the researcher is always already "embarked", always enmeshed in the process. Your living, experiencing body is your most indispensable research tool.
