My practice has always been artistically motivated. After graduating in 1997 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and at the postgraduate-course Post-Sint Joost in The Netherlands, I had an individual studio practice as an artist and participated in various solo and group exhibitions in Belgium, England and the Netherlands.
Soon I got involved with Lokaal 01, an artists' initiative in Breda and Antwerp. Originally, I worked as a factotum for the Antwerp branch, later I helped realising the exhibitions in Breda. During this period, I also worked as an artist.
In 2003 I became the artistic director of Lokaal 01. As a team we realized more than 80 exhibitions and concerts inside and outside the buildings and worked together with more than 250 artists. We have supervised around 70 artist-in-residence periods and compiled and edited various publications and books.
From 2017 till recently I was responsible for production and presentation of the exhibitions at CIAP in Hasselt and from 2019 till now I’m part of the team of Platform 0090, Antwerp – Istanbul.
My main occupation, however, from 2017 till now, is my work at mariondecannière. mariondecannière is a contemporary art gallery located in Antwerp, that gives opportunities to national and international artists.We welcome artists, regardless of age, and are not bound to the representation of specific artists. From September 2020 I will take over the gallery, together with my compagnon Ferry Saris.
I am also involved as a board member of Antwerp Art and iniator of several experimental 'off-projects', in collaboration with young and established artists and organizations.
