Regular study programs
As PXL-MAD School of Art is situated at Hasselt, which is in the Flemish part of the country, our regular higher education study programs are in Dutch. The study programs are on an academic level (not on a professional level):
- Bachelor Degree (3 years, valued at 180 ECTS credits)
- + a Master Degree (1 year valued at 60 ECTS credits)
PXL-MAD (Media, Arts and Design) School of Art offers study programs in the field of ‘Visual Arts’ with specializations in:

Bachelor Visual Art
To enroll in bachelor's programs in the study visual arts, by decree an additional admission requirement is to pass an artistic entrance test. Depending on the chosen study program it may evaluate the portfolio, basic design skills, visual thinking (studio-bound), general and artistic knowledge AND the motivation of each candidate. This test is specific per specialisation : switching to another specialisation during your study requires to pass for that specific specialisation part of the test again.
This admission test is conducted in Dutch and organized twice a year at fixed intervals, communicated via the website (http://www.pxl-mad.be/toelatingsinfo).

Master Visual Art
Regardless of the following terms and conditions of admission no one can be admitted to the bridging and preparatory programs of the Master in Fine Arts without having passed an artistic entrance test specific to these courses.
Dutch language requirements for the Master

The head of department and a specialist from the educational team can grant you to start the Master without having first to pass a language test. However you have to obtain the required language competency during your study and pass an admission evaluation, which consists of an interview (eventually through Skype or Face Time) and a screening of your portfolio. This portfolio consists of a selection of 20 pictures of your best creations and can be forwarded by email.
Diploma Requirements for the Master
1. Direct access to the initial master is granted for graduates of academic bachelor programs in the visual arts.
2. For graduates from other academic programs a preparatory program may be organized. The list of Bachelor's programs that allow access to a preparatory program will be published in the study guide annually.
3. If you possess a Bachelor but not an 'Academic' Bachelor degree, other intake flows and/or bridging programs do exist, depending on your previous educational career (see different flows subsequently). In that case please send your educational CV and proof of it (official translated copies of the diploma’s into English) to the Educational Board for further evaluation.
A student can simultaneously enroll in a preparatory or bridging program and with it in the corresponding Master (under the conditions determined by the Educational Coordinator).
Obtaining the diploma of the Master's program is however linked to the successful completion of the preparatory or bridging program. The competent examination commission may for this reason deliberate sequentially.
Required documents to apply for the Master
• A legitimate copy of your BACHELOR diploma; as well as a translation by a certified translator to Dutch, French, German or English.
• A certificate that you succeeded the language test, or a certificate proving that you fulfill one of the language conditions or an agreement of the admission board to start the Master and proof the Dutch language competency during your study. In the latter case you have to prove sufficient knowledge of the English language, the required IELTS score is at least 6.0, preferably 6.5.
• A copy of your identity card, international passport or proof of registration in the register of foreigners.
• A valid residence certificate.
• For students coming from China: an APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle – Certificate valid for studies in Belgium (Flemish Community))
Admission to individual courses
Students, who do not meet the admission requirements, may register for individual courses under a credit contract or an exam contract (with a view to obtaining a credit certificate for one or more courses) provided that an investigation reveals that the person has the ability to follow the course or courses. The research is conducted by the Educational Coordinator.
